Window
Jenya was gone for the day. I had no plans so I bopped around town to various stores alone in my Honda hatchback. On the way back home I heard a sudden thud behind me. I glanced in the rear view mirror to see the entire back window had transformed into an opaque maze of cracks.
What the fuck?! I almost couldn’t believe it - is this mirror lying to me? When paused at a red light I turned around in my seat to observe it directly. And at that instant the whole damn panel imploded, sending glass bits cascading into the interior of my car. This time I said it out loud: “What the fuck?!”
Well now I knew how I’d spend the rest of day. At home I pulled out the yellow pages and made some calls to window repair shops. One had my particular part in stock, so I drove straight there and waited an hour as they handled the cleanup and replacement for $150. And just like that I had a whole car again.
When Jenya returned she asked, “so what’d you do today?”
I never figured out exactly what happened. I’m pretty sure I was beneath an underpass when I heard that thud. Maybe a rock fell?
